Jesus says, "Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who seeks finds, and to everyone who knocks it shall be opened."
Is it possible to hear these words with fresh ears? Jesus is speaking to us. He means these words today as much he meant them on the day they were first uttered. He knows what he is talking about. He knows all the eternal spiritual truths. And from this knowledge, he is inviting us to ask, seek, and knock. He is promising us a response that will satisfy us. God is waiting to hear from us.
And what are we to ask for? Well... is there nothing that you want? Is there nothing that you need? Is there no suffering you want relieved? No confusion you want clarified? No weakness you want strengthened? No fear that you want dispelled? No habitual behavior you want to change? No injustice you want righted? Is there no shame or guilt that you want forgiven? Can it be possible that you don't need compassion or understanding or help or healing or protection of any kind?
If you do not need these things for yourself, might you not know someone who does? Why not speak on their behalf to the one who listens and promises to respond?
Jesus says that your Father in heaven gives good things to those who ask.
